It all started in the walking…

In the late Spring of 2018, founders Sharon and Timothy walked the Camino Frances together for the first time. Like so many pilgrims, the encounters and connections they made with others was life-changing. However, they realized that sharing stories and staying connected to others they’d met along the way was nearly impossible.

This became the inspiration of the Camino Connections app. Immediately, upon returning home, they set out to build a user-friendly mobile app that gave pilgrims the ability to share their experiences with others and stay connected along the way to their Compostela.

Whether you’re walking today or in the future, join Sharon, Timothy and the thousands of people in the Camino community by downloading Camino Connections now!

I didn’t even know what a pilgrim was until I ventured onto the Camino. My daughter and I chose to walk the path together, planning a great adventure that included hiking, laughter and lots of good wine. We discovered a life-changing place where we connected with each other and with others on the path in
a way we’d never experienced before. Some days we cried as much as we laughed. We stopped at every church we passed and prayed our individual Camino prayers. We danced, laughed and drank great wine.

Along the way, we discovered the promise of the Camino: to build connections, to encourage reflection, sharing and to change lives for the good. Like many pilgrims, I’m excited to be bringing my life and work into alignment with the Camino mission, to help others deepen their own experiences along the way by sharing their stories and connecting with the world.

I´ve long believed that ‘story’ is the most powerful and lasting connection between human beings. Sharing our stories with one another, through books, movies and kitchen conversations helps us understand and embrace one another. Although I brought this ethos with me as I first stepped on the Camino de Santiago in the late Spring of 2018, I wasn’t at all prepared for the deep and profound connections I would encounter sharing stories with strangers on the path.

Day by day, mile by mile, through tiny villages and big cities strangers from all over the world became my fellow pilgrims and walking tribe. Moved by the powerful connections I had made on the Camino, I arrived back home with a new resolve to make my experience available to as many people as possible. Today, I live in Burgos, Spain, right on the Camino path. Each day, I wake up, stretch my limbs and find pilgrim stories just like mine to share with you on this blog and the Camino Connections app. So, if you’re thirsty for something a little deeper than Facebook or Twitter, come walk the Camino with us. You’ll walk far and connect deep.

Seth Johnson, Creative Director

Since I was a boy I’ve had an intensely burning desire to explore and wander the Earth. I spent my summers as a child on my grandparent’s farm and I would sit for hours looking through hundreds of National Geographic magazines in awe of the beauty and experiences this world has to offer. In many ways I feel the photos and accompanying stories are why I have a strong passion for sharing my story through photography and a deep desire for exploring the world.

I’ve walked and explored my way around 66 countries at this point, and don’t imagine slowing down anytime soon. Through my shared experiences on the road I have an intimate understanding of how stories can influence the person listening, and be therapeutic for the person sharing. Between travels I would visit family and friends and regale them with dramatic stories of the long road traveled, bringing them on the journey with photos that I could not wait to share. On several occasions the stories I have shared have changed the lives of a friend or a family member in profound ways.

I don’t think comfort and growth can co-exist, but with your stories and your inspiration, we can encourage our friends and family to challenge themselves to step outside their comfort zones and allow the spirit of adventure to show them the way to the Camino de Santiago. If you’ve already had a wonderful Camino experience, join us in sharing your story, we’ll continue to share ours.

Since I was a child, I questioned everything around me; I always wanted to experience new things, try new foods, go to a new place, lie down on the grass, see the stars, and think about what was beyond. I grew up in a beautiful city surrounded by nature, full of art and great cultural diversity; Oaxaca, Mexico. When I grew up, I decided to study theology, since I have always been fascinated to know more about God; at the same time, I started a degree in business.

I have always been fascinated by technology, art, human connections, and exploring the new. I believe that we were created to create, and our life is a work of art that continues to be built. Being part of Camino Connections is part of the most exciting and extraordinary experiences in my life. I'd love to talk about Camino Connections with you; we also can chat in Spanish.
